FAMILY SESSION: being thankful

Thanksgiving is just 2 days away...

I wish I could say that I think about being "thankful" 365 days a year, but I'd not be telling the truth...

In reality, it often feels like we're just in a constant state of moving...we're onto the next thing as soon as one thing is finished...

It's not that I'm NOT thankful, rather, it's that I don't think about it...

My focus is not on what is NOW, but what has to be done, where we need to be, how things are and what I need to happen soon...

I guess that's the curse of the multi-tasking parent, but at the same time, I'm really glad that at least one day in the year, we are forced to change our focus...

to see the RIGHT NOW
to be thankful IN THE MOMENT
to remember the SEASON we are in
to HOLD ON TIGHTLY to what we have & not focus on what is not

All parents, around the world, remark that time goes by so quickly...
everytime there is a birthday, or you see a FB memory "shared" from a few years ago, we suck in a quick breath and think, "where has the time gone?"

It's just life...
but, it's also because we seldom are just STILL...

we rarely slow down enough to just soak in the NOW...

This lovely mom of 3 approached me as we were getting ready to start their session...
she let me know that her little guy made his own outfit choices and things weren't "exactly" as she had planned...

but, instead of fretting and being in a rush to "get it perfect" and "get it done"...

she CHOSE to do the opposite...

she just rested...

she rested in the fact that this was just a season...and she is determined to bask in the memories that she makes with each of her children on a moment by moment basis...

I appreciated her perspective...I also thoroughly loved how everyone in her family takes their cue from her..

and so...

the session was relaxed, enjoyable, real...
and we were able to capture each of them just being themselves...

and once again...

I am THANKFUL!
