She made the team!!!

My childhood sports consisted of watching the Tigers (1984 baby!!!), the Detroit Pistons (back to back WOOT WOOT) and football...

Schools majored in softball/baseball, basketball, football, cheerleading, volleyball and until the pool was gutted at the MS, we had swimming/diving...

soccer?
tennis?
golf?
lacrosse?

ummm...no

So, when my daughters all started playing rec soccer at around 1st grade, I had no clue what it was all about...and that's okay because I could scream and cheer and paint my war face and it was just all part of the "thing to do"...

My husband has played tennis since high school however...
yet another sport I know nothing about...
I'm shamed to say that I never even attended ANY of his matches all through college either...

however, upon recently having my eyes opened to the "rules" of said sport, it's probably a good thing I never went...

My eldest picked up a racket for the first time a year ago July...
We weren't thinking it was going to be highly likely that she'd make the high school team this year, but she has busted her butt all winter long and once warm weather hit, she's been at a court almost every day...

We found out last week that she made the team!

I started my list of "things I'm learning about tennis" on Instagram this week if you missed it...I'll recap just a bit here:

#1 there is no CHEERING in tennis...as in, no clapping, no ROOT, ROOT, no coaching and basically no TALKING during a match...need I say more?  This is Unimaginably difficult for me...I mean, on just so, so many levels.
I've begun using a simple thumbs up whilst clamping my mouth shut...but it starts to look more like I'm dancing in my lawn chair while ants are crawling up my legs because it's THAT difficult for me to contain my excitement...and THUS, embarrassing my eldest born child...

#2 The scoring is beyond my understanding...game, set, match...it all sounds good but I don't have a clue because they start off with words like LOVE and then jump by 15 or 10 or something...and the next thing you know they are calling Deuce or Add In and I'm still trying to figure out color card my daughter's score is on...
A friend on facebook wisely told me to remember that in tennis, "love means nothing"

this is a sad state of affairs people...

#3 there ARE such things as TENNIS SHOES...like, REAL tennis shoes...and they aren't your ordinary tennishoes...

I'm completely at a loss to explain this one...it just is what it is...

Anyway...she made the team...and the girls are neat and she's excited for HS...

it matters not whether her mother understands a blessed thing because I think she looks cute in her uniform and that makes for sweet pictures :)
