FAMILY SESSION: Changing...

family sessions
The first time I met them, all their children were under one roof, mom and dad were running all 4 of them in different directions for all the activities and sports...life was fast paced.
There were moments that felt like it would never slow down enough to take a breath, to just breathe and make a decision that wasn't just on the fly...
I could be wrong and I understand that not everyone's experience is the same as mine...however, I felt as though toddler years were physically exhausting...it's more like the years of "survival"...
however, it's during the upcoming tween & teen years that not only seems to kick into high gear, but as an adult you are finally coming into your own as well...
All of a sudden, you aren't some high energy 20-something, but rather dragging into the 40s and trying to figure out what actually defines YOU...you wake up to realize that you've given so, so much of yourself to everyone else and life isn't slowing down enough for you to look in the mirror anymore...
Can I let you in on a secret?
I people-watch...
I do the normal people watching at amusement parks and Walmart, but I actually watch/listen during my photo sessions too...especially when I get to photograph families that are at my same stage of life or a little ahead...
Because let's face it, we are all just trying to do the best we can..we are trying to make the best decisions for our family on a moment by moment basis...we care so much, but we're only human too...
and my curiosity leads me to watch how others juggle it...how do others interact, how do they choose where to give and where to stand their ground?
Shawna has poured herself into her family over the years...here is a woman that would lay down her life for any of them...
It's not that she wouldn't let her children make their own decisions, whether successful or mistakes..but rather, she's the constant behind it all...
I love to watch her interact with them...I see bits of her, in how they interact with each other...how they genuinely love on one another...
This pouring...this constant in their lives, has changed them...
it has empowered them to deal with the ever coming change that happens all around us...
It is a privilege to work with the families that choose to come to me...
I'm continually humbled and grateful...
and I learn from them as well!
