FAMILY SESSION: another chapter in the story

Have you ever been so engrossed in a novel that you feel like you are actually part of the story...

you are LIVING life WITH the characters...
you are all in...
all there...

and then you turn the page...

and it's GONE?

The next pages of the narrative have been ripped out, or damaged beyond legibility...

and you are left hanging...almost breathless, because this was YOUR story...

remember...

you were ALL IN...

and suddenly, there is a missing section...

sure you can skip ahead and finish the book, but you are always left wondering about that sliver of storyline...

just because the section is gone, doesn't mean it didn't "live" at one time...

------

Okay...so it's no secret that I've become quite obsessed with all things ancestry dot com! (or in my case: familysearch dot org)

I'm sure that part of the intrigue is the search...

the anticipation of discovery and excitement of revelation...

but, it also has to do with the being APART of a story that is soooo big...

Recently, my aunt showed me a bunch of negatives of pictures...

we had no idea what they were or people in them or anything...we were guessing...

and not very good guessing because...have you really LOOKED at a regular negative before?

(for those born before the digital age...this is what we call REAL photography...as in, "back in the day" exposure)

Fortunately for us, I know a bit about photoshop and was able to quickly invert the negative so that it could reveal a clue...the actual image!

to our amazement, we witnessed, never before seen (by us) images of my great grandmother & grandfather...

She died when my grandfather was only 4 years old...and so her "part to play" on the storybook stage was only for a short amount of time...and yet, without her...

I would not be here...

I sat and stared at those pictures (there were bunches) for hours...
I scrutinized the hairdos, the pocket watch, the scenery...

some pictures had them playing catch with my grandfather when he must have been about 3 years old...

THIS is why photography (and ancestry stuff) is so captivating to me.

Pictures tell a story...they are part of the story elements...the characters, the details, the setting, the action/climax...

I follow this family on Instagram and I watch their story unfold everyday...from the sibling interactions to family vacations...

and then we take the time to get all 4 of them in an image together...and we see the "sweet & sassy" sister and cool & collected big brother...

every shot points to a different component...a different part to their story...

For them, there won't be "pages missing"...they are doing their best to be sure that their WHOLE story is captured...

future generations won't be left hanging, wondering what happened in between...

And it's a beautiful narrative...filled with a bit of spice and lots of love :)
