SENIOR SESSION: Lauren CO2019

Senior Sessions
During the post process of editing, I often listen to podcasts, books or music...sometimes I'll watch a show, but typically I want to keep my eyes focused on my screen...so I let the words streaming from cyberspace in the background, seep into my heart & mind...
That's what words do, you know...they are powerful...
at least for me...
Yesterday I listened to a podcast entitled, The Next Right Thing...
Sometimes my world seems overwhelming...so I was struck when I saw that title...
Don't get me wrong...I live a charmed life and I know it...but that doesn't mean it isn't hectic or crazy busy all the time...it doesn't mean that I don't fret and worry over the well-being of my husband, my daughters, our finances, health, extended family, what to make for dinner or "when did I do laundry last?" So, sometimes, it helps me to remember that all that is truly expected of me, and what I should expect of myself, is to measure my "next step" in accordance with all that I know to be true and just do the next right thing...
Today, as I sat and processed through more of Lauren's images from her Senior session, a song entitled Beautiful was playing in the background...I was checking fuzz on her varsity jacket, and then scrolled around her hair...until I zoomed in on her eyes...
and at that same moment, the words of the song resonated loudly through my speaker...
"You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are treasured, you are sacred..."
I know it may appear that I'm attempting to wax "poetic" by referring to song lyrics and Senior pictures, but bear with me...
If you've known me (or about me) for long...you know that my philosophy of a "Senior Session" is a little bit different than others... Obviously I want to produce quality imagery...but more importantly...more than all else, I want the people with whom I come in contact to realize the celebration of THEM. I don't mean this in a vain or self-centered way...rather, in a way that reminds them that they are UNIQUE...just like fingerprints and snowflakes...there is NOONE just like them!
The song blaring from my iphone...Lauren's eyes peering back at me from my screen...the remembrance of our time together with her dad & dog bouncing along...
it just confirmed once again, in my own heart, that each individual is remarkable...I have this immense privilege to spend a couple hours with complete strangers and hope that I am able to pull out all the beauty that is inside of them...
for not only the world to see...but for them to see as well...to not just showcase, but to celebrate these years of growing and maturing and learning...to journey with them in the dreams and hopes for the future...
Lauren is unpretentious and gentle...incredibly easy to talk with and she disarms you with her kind demeanor...and yet, I learned through her parents and other pictures that she has a fierceness on the court and a determination that is unyielding...she's courageous and strong...and she is powerfully loved by her family & friends!!!
Congratulations Lauren on not only your upcoming graduation, but in all your future endeavors...I hope you always remember the beauty of YOU and the gift that you are to all that come in contact with you!!!
