We're Home (part 2)

So...

what happens when YOUR best friend, marries your HUSBAND'S best friend?

Well...

you get an unlikely pairing..and simultaneously you receive one of the most amazing gifts that you could ever imagine...

We are all each other's opposites and that's what makes it rather hilarious to get us all together...
two of us are a tad more spontaneous & sometimes ridiculous...the other two are meticulous, even-keeled & the steady hands...

all of us love deeply and value authenticity...

there is rarely a topic that goes unspoken...we range in conversations on marriage, parenting, struggles, successes, finances, spirituality, counseling, the future, the past, relationships, and the list goes on...

We do not shy away from making our true selves known to one another and it is received with nonjudgmental compassion, understanding and love...that may be coupled with a kick in the pants from time to time, but that's what being REAL is all about...

we are accountable to one another and it is a TREASURE to have them as friends for over 20 plus years!

And so...continuing our "adventure story"...

Once we dropped the older girls off at camp, we continued on our way with the "little girls"...

It's Cherry Festival time in Michigan, along with the 4th of July, and we HAD to take in a parade...
complete with Elvis and bags of candy!

Once finished, we drove a few minutes around the block to Sleeping Bear Dunes to experience the skin being burned off the bottom of our feet...

This is a glorious experience and I encourage everyone to try it...

In all seriousness, the dunes are super cool!!!

I was a tad nervous to bring my "big girl" camera up in the dune, so I settled for a few iphone pics until I could run to the bottom first and catch a few shots of everyone coming down...they did not disappoint...

G first introduced us to Geocaching a few years ago and we always enjoy a good "search"...
Day 2 began with such an endeavor and the girls were pleasantly surprised with the little treasures they were able to exchange in their finds.

(yes, I am sucking on a sucker...it's a blow pop and they are my favorite and I will make no excuses for it...)

And this quaint little joint had the most delicious warm pretzels and hot mustard...it was a perfect stop later in the week when the rain rolled in fast and furious!
The condo where we were staying all together hosted a private lake side beach with all the amenities needed for an outdoor picnic and activities...

This is also where the invented "Ball buster" game was first conceived...

Day 3 was spent soaking up Old Mission Point and reminiscing about the "proposal" of G to S (way back in the day)... The storms and high waters had washed away many of the stacked rocks, but we were still able to appreciate the landscapes & especially the time together...

One of our new favorite places to visit is a winery called Chateau Chantal.  We took this same picture last year and sampled some new wines...although, their Beguile is my all time favorite!

Day 4 was spent on Mackinac Island...it's the littles favorite day...we bike the entire 8.2 around the island and take in the stacking of rocks and water front views...Thanks to G's generous friends who rounded up enough bikes for all of us so that we could delight in the visit from the moment we stepped off the ferry.

G works with Great Commissions Ministries at U of M...his heart for PEOPLE is humbling...he doesn't know a stranger and therefore, others can't help but bask in his friendship...
Once again, generous friends helped us find our way to the Fort Mackinac where we could participate in reenactments.  We then headed for the Tea Room for some delicious milkshakes & light snack before we jumped on the ferry for "home".

Day 5 was our day of relaxation...
Remember me mentioning the "ballbuster" game...
Well, our balcony was right at the #10 tee of the golf course.  So in the evening, after the guys had spent about an hour searching for lost golf balls, of which they found over 50, we'd sit in our lounging chairs and see who could throw the golf balls closest to the designated mark until the sun had completely set...

This was our Michigan adventure this year...
It's a highlight and one that we won't soon forget...

My MIL recently said to me, "G and S are good medicine for you two!"
I couldn't agree more!!!

Oh my goodness. What a perfect summary of an amazing week! We enjoyed every second of it!
