72 years

We are a society today of immediate gratification..."live the way you want"...do what makes you happy...it's an entitlement generation, and we want it now...

I think...

No, I KNOW

there is something to be gleaned, to be learned from those that have gone before us...

This couple celebrated 72 years of marriage today...SEVENTY-TWO...

You don't stay with another human being for 72 years being selfish, living to your own comfort level, only doing what makes you happy...

there is no way that can happen...because we're human...noone wants to be around someone who is always out for themselves for any length of time...let alone 72 years...

I would venture to say that to stay committed for that length of time takes sacrifice, generosity, forgiveness...I would say that a good measure of grace had to be given and that it wasn't a 50/50 deal they made many years ago...

it looks more like 100/100 was given...little choices made, day by day...in sickness and in health, for richer AND for poorer...when they make silly financial decisions AND when you get a dream vacation...when they mess up big time AND when they bring you flowers...

They are inspiring and lovely and bring such joy to everyone they meet...

They are a living legacy for their grandchildren and now their great-grandchildren...

Sisters, with their little ones, flock to their side...eager to soak up the time spent with these individuals who have set such the precedent and shown such an incredible example of what "true love" really means...even in this day and age...

Happy Anniversary...thank you for showing us all how to love and live well!  ~Colleen
