FAMILY SESSION: A Gift...

family sessions
I homeschooled my girls for a short while.
I'm a former educator...I LOVED being a stay at home mom while the girls were babies..into toddler years and being that former educator, I knew that once they reached the elementary school years, I would cherish the opportunity to be their "teacher"...
and I did...
and it was wonderful...
but there came the time, when we chose to put them into school...
it was a daunting thing...at least for me...
You see, I knew that what they heard in the 6 hours away from home each day would be what they wanted to emulate...
young minds are constantly looking for "the way" to live...
I knew that my daughters would watch and listen to their teachers...those adults would become role models...the ones they "wanted to be like"...their teachers would be the ones I would hear about everyday after school...
how their teachers handled adversity, the example they set would be ones that my daughters would store away in their hearts...
how their teachers spoke to them and others...the atmosphere they created in their classrooms...the views & things that their teachers were passionate about, my girls would also adopt as their own...
and so...what do you do...knowing that your child's young & developing heart & mind are going to be influenced greatly by people that aren't family, nor people you know very well...
You pray for teachers like this momma pictured below...
One that carries herself with grace and dignity...
One that values the academic alongside the character...
One that understands that a child is not the sum of their mistakes or their victories, but that they are ever growing and learning...they are in need of compassion and direction...
One that motivates and inspires, but allows students the opportunities to think about issues rather than imposing her own...
I have been so very thankful for the role models that my girls have been given...
and to be able to meet the family behind the teacher is an even BIGGER treat for me!
She may have the opposite household with her crew of boys compared to my company of girls...but, it's evident that we share a love of family, togetherness and FUN!
She is a gift!
