FAMILY SESSION: another fave

family sessions
I've known them since their little girl was a newborn...
They are passionate, down-to-earth, committed, REAL, and a solid team!
I've been at this "marriage thing" for coming up on 17 years...
When we first got married, I thought I had it all figured out...our marriage was not going to go through the trials and tribulations that I had seen played out in others...oh no...my 24 year old self thought she had it fortified...
The thing is...you don't have control over circumstances or life in general...
1 + 1 does not automatically equate to 2 in our world...
sometimes 1 + 1 = hippo or carrot or loved ones dying or stress or...or...or...
And that's where (#1) Faith comes in and (#2) authentic, communicative relationship becomes a MUST-HAVE!
When your spouse is your go-to person...when he/she is the person you never lie to...when he/she is the person that you don't have to fear judgment, even when you've done wrong...when they are the SAFE place...
that is where "forever" lasts...
These are things that my hubs and I have committed to over the years...
it's not easy though...
It's not easy when I have to come to him because I'm upset for the upmteenth time over the same dreaded fear/issue...and he has a choice to say, "you're being ridiculous" OR "I love you and we'll walk through this again, no matter how many times it takes"
It's not easy when life's finances and age and health start breathing down your neck and you're not really sure what the right next step is supposed to be...
We don't have all the answers...we are NOT in control...of anything, really...
except for our own choices, our own committments and the way we choose to hang onto the ones we love the most...
However, you choose to walk hand in hand...continuing to be honest, to be vulnerable, to be each other's safe place...
When I see families who recognize this...
who practice selfless-ness with each other...
who see it as a privilege to love the other person more than they do themselves...
this is true JOY!
It's not just about a "pretty picture"...it's not about having it all together...
I love this family...
They are practicing what I've written about above...
and it's a privilege to watch it happen...
